This is an information-gathering phase that will lay the foundation for subsequent phases. The main goal during this phase is to learn everything possible about you: personality, lifestyle, likes & dislikes, style, and needs. Additionally, we determine the current and future space requirements, discussing extensively how that space should be used, organized, and arranged. This information is compiled into a Conceptual Summary or Design, detailing all the rooms and spaces for the project, their approximate sizes, and any specific qualities or unique features desired. Some preliminary space planning and sketches also occur during this time. Another critical aspect of this phase is observing and documenting the existing conditions at the project site. This usually involves creating a detailed model and plan of any existing structures affected by the project and conducting a land survey to determine property line locations and measurements of existing structures, easements, and setbacks. We also perform research to better understand how the site relates to the surrounding area, climate, people, and regulations impacting the project. You should expect to be somewhat involved and ready to answer several questions during this phase. This collaboration allows us to understand your values and needs better, resulting in a design that reflects your individuality with optimal functionality.
Typical Timeframe of 1-2 Weeks (varies greatly depending on size & scope of project)
